Short Bio

Paulo de Carvalho is an Associate Professor with Habilitation at the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra. His main research interests are intelligent algorithms for personal health solutions for chronic cardiovascular and respiratory diseases and clinical decision support systems. His publications include several book chapters and over 200 papers in refereed international journals and conferences. He has been involved in several organization and program committees of int. conf. in the health informatics domain. He has served as project and work package coordinator, as well as team leader in several national (e.g. FCT, P2020) and EU projects (e.g. FP7, H2020, EIT-Health). He raised over 5.5 million € in competitive funding from national, EU programs and from industry (e.g. Philips, AlticeLabs). He is the director of the Working Group on Health Informatics of the IFMBE. He serves as associate editor of the IEEE Journal on Biomedical and Health Informatics.
