Synopsis

Even though education is as old as culture on Earth, its methods continue to evolve especially in emerging areas. Most news on career choices note the stark prevalence in education major choices for different segments of the population, with early efforts trying to balance this discrepancy, through varying teaching methods and exposure. While positive advancements have been noted, the specific methodologies are difficult to extrapolate to the broader population and education systems without further testing and direct exposure of more educators from other parts of the globe. We propose to replicate the wins Virginia Tech has locally recorded in the United States with respect to hands-on technology exploration at the University of Coimbra. We propose exposing similar groups of academics, teachers, students, and industry to practices Virginia Tech tested with an average of 3000 visitors per year. Our findings are to be published in academic journals to highlight common practices of success. The work will leverage the current wins and allow further dissemination to a broader segment of educators for a better and more polished, replicable impact. Results could support more school-aged students to gain a broader perspective and positive exposure when considering pursuing a career and might positively influence the choice towards a technical field, such as those of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).
