Short Bio

Thales Roel is a sound designer, sound engineer, and researcher at Centre for Informatics and Systems of the University of Coimbra (CISUC). His areas of interest include Computer Aided Composition, Music Analysis, Computer Mediated Multimodal Environments, Computational Creativity, Human-Computer Interaction, and Algorithmic Composition. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Music with a focus on composition (2021) from the Institute of Arts at the State University of Campinas (Unicamp) in Brazil. Additionally, he has a study certificate in Sound Engineering (2021) from the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the same University. He has participated in workshops and masterclasses with Phillippe Manoury, Michel Redolfi, Marcus Siqueira, Fábio Zanon, Jonathan Crissman, Laiana Oliveira, Conrado Paulino, among others. Currently, he is enrolled in the PhD in Computational Media Design at the Institute of Interdisciplinary Research of the University of Coimbra in Portugal. His PhD work focuses on developing sound design strategies for the development of multimodal platforms that enable performance and interaction between humans and machines, under the guidance of Professor Doctor Pedro Martins and Professor Doctor Jônatas Manzolli.
