How to get to Coimbra and to CISUC

If travelling from outside the Iberian Peninsula, you will probably fly to Lisbon or Oporto, from where there are good train and express bus connections to Coimbra. Flight costs are reasonable if booked in advance, but they can become expensive near the summer. Coimbra is 130km from Oporto and 206km away from Lisbon. Our advice on choosing which airport to fly to, is to choose based on the flights available.

From Lisbon airport to Coimbra

Once you arrive to Lisbon you should go to the railway station "Gare do Oriente" or to Sete Rios bus terminal. To do so you can:

• Take a taxi (about 10 minutes and should cost 5-8 euros). Or take the subway to Oriente station. Use the red line for a direct route;

• To Sete Rios bus terminal take a taxi (about 15 minutes and should cost 10-15 euros). Or take the subway to Sete Rios station. Use the red line first and then change to the blue line.

From Oporto airport to Coimbra

Once you arrive at Oporto take the Tram-train to the Campanhã train station (line E). You should buy a Z4 ticket (4 zones) which costs 1,5 euros. The travel takes, roughly, 30 minutes. You can download the timetable from this address. You may also take a taxi to Campanhã train station (about 20 minutes and should cost 25-35 euros)

By Train

The most comfortable way to get to Coimbra is probably by train. There are plenty of daily connections departing from Lisbon and Oporto. You can check the timetables at CP’s website. Arriving in Coimbra – B Station, you should catch the commuter train to Coimbra – A Station. Here you can hire a taxi to "Departamento de Engenharia Informática - Pólo II". The price should be around 5 Euros. You can also take the bus just outside the train Station. Nº34, 24 or 11 are all valid options.

By Express Bus

The national express bus network has connections from several locations in the country to Coimbra. You can check the timetables at Rede Expressos. When you arrive to Coimbra you can hire a taxi to "Departamento de Engenharia Informática - Pólo II". The price should be around 5 Euros.

In Coimbra By Bus

The bus options that serve the campus nº 2 of the University of Coimbra are the numbers 34 and 38. It stops near the train station, in Largo da Portagem or Praça da República. Exit the bus at campus nº2 and turn right. The Department of Informatics Engineering is the first building on the right, just after the entrance to the canteen. Bus nº 24 will also take you to campus nº2 and it stop just a few hundred meters from the department. It's a five minute walk. You should exit the bus at Rotunda da Boavista, and follow the directions to “Pólo II”. After a couple of hundred meters turn left. Go up the street, through the hotel industry and tourism school and about eight hundred meters later you will arrive at campus nº2. The Department of Informatics Engineering is the second building. You can check the timetables at www.smtuc.pt
