Short Bio

Alberto Cardoso is an Associate Professor with tenure of the Department of Informatics Engineering, University of Coimbra (Portugal), Coordinator and senior researcher of the Adaptive Computation Group of the Centre for Informatics and Systems of the University of Coimbra (CISUC), responsible for the Laboratory of Industrial Informatics and Systems of CISUC and member of the Intelligent Systems Associate Laboratory (LASI). He received his PhD in Informatics Engineering in 2006 and his MSc in Systems and Information Technologies in 1995 from the University of Coimbra. He is an elected member of the Scientific Council/Committee of the Department of Informatics Engineering (DEI), CISUC and FCTUC. He was vice-chairman of DEI, 2013-2017, as well as the Assembly of FCTUC, 2017-2021. He was President of the Portuguese Association of Automatic Control (APCA), 2019-2020, President of the Portuguese Society for Engineering Education (SPEE), 2014-2016, and Coordinator of the Informatics Engineering Chapter for the central region of Portugal of the Portuguese Engineering Association (Ordem dos Engenheiros), 2013-2016, and President of the (Portuguese) National Monitoring Committee of IGIP, 2013-2015. He is a licensed Professional Engineer and was awarded the title “International Engineering Educator Honoris Causa” and the "Adolf-Melezinek-Meritorious-Service-Award" by the International Society for Engineering Pedagogy (IGIP). His main research interests are Cyber-Physical Systems, Data Analysis and Processing, Intelligent Systems, Wireless Sensor Networks, Sensor Data Fusion, Remote and Virtual Laboratories, Geographic Information Systems, Soft Computing, Supervision and Fault Diagnosis, Reconfiguration and Fault Tolerant Control. He coordinates/participates or has coordinated/participated in several projects at national and international level in a wide range of application areas (SUDOE SenForFire, H2020 KYKLOS4.0, H2020 REMAP, SUDOE NanoSen-AQM, FP7-GINSENG, FP7-EPILEPSIAE, PRR NEXUS, PRR NextGenAI-CRAI, FCT FireLoc, U-Academy (Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation), NeReLa - Network of Remote Labs (6th Call of Tempus IV)). He has served in the Program Committee of many conferences and has organized several scientific events, such as conferences (i.e., expat, IEEE EDUCON2020), workshops and summer schools. He co-edited two books and published five book chapters and several papers in international journals and conference proceedings.
