Short Bio

Haytham Hijazi is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Coimbra's Department of Informatics Engineering and the Center for Informatics and Systems (CISUC) in Portugal, where he is currently conducting research on intelligent biofeedback systems. His work aims to predict content comprehension and engagement levels in individuals using wearable biometric data and has been published in top peer-reviewed journals and presented at international conferences. He has also received an international patent application from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) for the group's work on scoring code review quality through intelligent code comprehension assessment. Prior to his Ph.D. research, Hijazi worked as a Quality Assurance Manager, IT faculty member, researcher, and EU projects coordinator at Palestine Ahliya University from 2013 to 2019. In 2010, he received a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) to complete his MSc. in Informatics Engineering at the University of Stuttgart in Germany. Hijazi is an expert in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Biofeedback Systems and Wearable Data Analysis, and Neuro Software Engineering (NeuroSE). In 2022, he received the second prize in COVID-19-related research from the Palestinian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research for his work using AI and wearable devices to predict COVID-19 infection in individuals before the onset of symptoms. As a Ph.D. Research Fellow at CISUC, Hijazi works under the supervision of Professors Henrique Madeira and Paulo de Carvalho, and Dr. Joao Castelhano. In the future, he hopes to continue making significant contributions to the field of artificial intelligence and biofeedback systems, with a focus on improving content comprehension and engagement levels in neurologically disordered individuals through the use of wearable biometric data.
